A brand new LDD MOC!

A new ship is setting sail! It’s HMS Lively, one of Jack Aubreys ships in the Aubrey/Maturin series. Kurigan did a great job on this LDD MOC. The shape is perfect and it also has some nice details like a very inventive capstan design. This ship may be very helpful to all shipMOC’ers. Furthermore Kurigan has also made a lot of other ships, all looking excellent.

Shark Attack, a pirate Lego creation by Scrat

Seems hungry...

Check out this very nice-looking MOC from Eurobricks and Classic-Pirates.com member Scrat.

The giant hungry creature seen here is of course a Duplo shark, which, as you see, fits pretty well as part of this violent and bloody scene.

It doesn’t seem like the pirates have any chance of survival…

New Classic-Pirates contest: Bayonets at Dawn!

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010
Click to participate into Bayonets at Dawn, a Pirate LEGO contest hosted by Classic-Pirates.com and Eurobricks!

Click the picture to see what beautifull bounty you can win!

Armies are on the war-path – from Blenheim to Bunker Hill to Balaclava, Leipzig to Lissa, Wagram to Waterloo, powder is readied, and sabres polished. And it’s war – and a very unhealthy trade!

Your task is to build a battle scene, based on an actual battle, as realistically as possible. The battle should have taken place between 1450 and 1880, including Spanish Conquest in the Americas and American Civil War (but hence excluding the Boer War). Pre-1450 battles in the Americas (eg. Mayan, Inca) are also allowed, as they fit the general genre, but not medieval battles of the same era (eg. knights on horseback). All “factions” are allowed. Naturally, fantasy elements are not permissible. Any queries, just ask.

Need inspiration? Check out the MOC Indexes – in particular the Land-based MOCs – a wealth of ideas and techniques to explore.

  1. The contest will run from NOW (posting time of this message!) untill May 31 2010!
  2. One entry per member; only new MOCs
  3. You must include a short description or link to evidence of the actual battle; paintings, Wikipedia etc.
  4. Full customization is allowed, including decals, string, sails, 3rd party customs (e.g. Brickarms, Brickforge). Cutting and painting are permissible, but as the contest is judged by public vote, these may not be popular. We suggest visiting The Great Pirate Torso Library and the Sail Library Resource.
  5. No clone brands or digital entries
  6. No size or minifig limit
  7. Post 6 pictures (maximum size 800×600). You can link to an external gallery, where there are no image limitations. See these tutorials for help with resizing images and deeplinking.
  8. Important: Each entry will be posted in its own thread, like you would with a normal MOC. All entry threads are to be created in the LEGO Pirates MOCs Forum. The thread title should be the title of the ENTRY. The description of the entry thread should be “Bayonets at Dawn Contest Entry”.
  9. Judging will take place by a public vote. Each person can pick their top 3 entries. This will happen by posting, not by voting in a poll.

Prizes, you say? Obviously there are prizes! Click the link below or the picture above to see them!

LEGO Online Survey

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

The LEGO Group Wants to Hear From You!

As Adult or Teenage Fans of LEGO, you bring an important perspective to the LEGO Group. We respect your creativity and passion for the LEGO brand.

Since December 2008, we have done quarterly online surveys to learn more about the needs and wishes of global AFOL (defined as ages 20+) and TFOL (defined as ages 13-19) communities. For your information, we have listed the key findings from the latest survey in November 2009 below. Now we ask you to take the survey again. It include some of the same questions, but also a set of new questions for you.

Please take a few moments to complete this short online survey to let us know your opinion about the LEGO Group.

You might notice that the link refers to the LEGO Kids Inner Circle; this is because Satmetrix, which hosts that site, is also supporting our efforts to track AFOL/TFOL opinions. Rest assured that this survey is for AFOLs and TFOLs only.

Here are some of the key findings from the November 2009 survey:

– The survey was completed by 3.800 AFOLs and TFOLs. 30% of respondents were TFOLs, 70% was AFOLs. When asked about likeliness to recommend LEGO products and services to friends and family, AFOLs are (consistent with the previous surveys) more likely to recommend than TFOLs. When asked what the LEGO Group can do to improve willingness to recommend, most frequent answers center around request for adult/teen oriented products, re-release of classic sets and better pricing.

– In this survey we asked some questions specifically about LEGO Architecture. It was interesting for us to find out that 91% of the respondents are aware of LEGO Architecture. There was given as the most important reasons to purchase a LEGO Architecture set:

  • I liked the building (53%)
  • I like the way the product looks when it is built (44%)
  • I just saw it and wanted it (40%)

– We also asked about AFOL and TFOL experiences with different LEGO Group touchpoints. A touchpoint is what we call places where consumers are in direct contact with the LEGO Group e.g. LEGO Stores, Consumer Service or LEGO.com. The touch points which received the highest rating by you was LEGO Stores and Consumer Service. The ones that received the lowest rating was LEGO.com (excluding S@H) and the Community Team. We will investigate the reasons for the lower ratings further as we certainly want to improve!

Thank you,

The LEGO Community Team

Latest update ‘Prins Willim’ by Captain Greenhair

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Real minfig scale it is!

Finally a new update of the mammoth ship ‘Prins Willim‘ by our respected Captain Greenhair! The hold is now almost finished so it won’t take long anymore before Greenhair will start on the gundeck(!). And that’s not all. This ship is also going to have real LED-lights for the lanterns! Many EB-members say this is the best lego ship ever made. It’s real minifig scale and made exactly after the plans of the real ship. Furthermore, it uses the best lego shipbuilding techniques and it has inspired a lot of other MOC’ers. If you’re interested in Lego-ships, you just can’t miss this beauty!

WIP Teaser of an American Frigate by Admiral Bejaune

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010
Take a look in the forums for better pictures.

Admiral Bejaune‘s American super frigate of 54 guns finally has a rigging! And the hull is about 95% finished, so it won’t take very long anymore before a new ship will set sail on the Lego-sea. It’s truly a beautiful ship and largely based on USS President. And that’s not a bad thing because the American frigates were the most powerful and the fastest ships of their kind! The image is a bit blurry. For better pic’s you’ll have to look at some previous ones or wait for the final result. It’s certainly worth to take a look at!

French Navy Xebec, By Bonaparte

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Classic-Pirates.com Ambassador Bonaparte shows off his skills again with this incredible piece of work: a French Navy Xebec!

French Navy Xebec, a ship MOC by Bonaparte

A Mediterranean Xebec

Xebecs were used in the Mediterranean by French corsairs mainly for quick interception and getaway. The corsairs favored the xebec for its speed and maneuverability, and for its shallow draft which also aided in escaping larger vessels. These qualities were recognized by many of the European navies, and the vessel was quickly adopted into the Mediterranean squadrons as commerce-raiders and anti-piracy cruisers.

Paddles' Inn, a land-based Lego creation by MetroiD

The inn of the Pirates' Town

The Classic-Pirates.com’s Community Build winners may have been announced, but there’s still some interesting MOCs left worth mentioning… Like this beautiful inn built by Eurobricks member MetroiD.

It features two floors with a total of 3 bedrooms, and a nice-looking yard which even has an outhouse. Please also note the very interesting roof design. This Pirate Lego creation has even a backstory of its own – make sure to read it too!
