Modules

Coconut Cape separates into five modules, more so for accessibility than display – it appears the modules cannot be easily be combined into different arrangements beyond the initial design.  Or can they?

Layout modules of 910065 Coconut Cape

Here be the modules of the modular design

Although, the upper-most module which contains the Commodore’s residence, could possibly stand on its own as a smaller set.

Minifigure line-up of Coconut Cape

What do yer think of the minifigures?

Minifigures and Faction

Classic Pirates has delved into the surge of new LEGO Pirates factions which have appeared in recent times, noting that the Coconut Cape imperial minifigures loosely resemble those of the criminally neglected Imperial Armada sub-theme.

Minifigures included with Coconut Cape

Lavender coats?

While the Coconut Cape’s core regiment remains similar to the initial submission’s recruits, the production version features a new, regal minifigure in command.

Sporting the lavender torso which first appeared in the Series 7 version of Privateer Frigate Fortuna, albeit not on the captain minifig.

Commodore and wife minifigures included with Coconut Cape

The highest ranking officer and his wife… daughter… niece?

Quite far removed from the vibrant red torso of the established Imperial Armada admiral, Don Diego de LEGO, so we could assume this is brand new character.

And low and behold!  An Imperial Armada-inspired flag sticker is included…

Coconut Cape includes both Imperial Guard and Imperial Armada Flags

Both Imperial Armada and Imperial Guard flags are included

Curiously enough, an Imperial Guard flag is thrown in for good measure…  so perhaps your red coat army will eventually conquer the cape… or be that your Unpredictable Privateers disguised as Imperial Guards?

Interior

Coconut Cape brims with clever touches and visual surprises to ensure the design remains endlessly engaging for your enjoyment.

Commodore’s Residence

Occupying the top-most floors is our regal leader’s abode.

It may be cozy yet its dressed in fine luxuries; a stately grandfather clock and a gleaming diamond chandelier be among them.

Commodore's quarters at Coconut Cape

The commodore is looking for his croissant

And should the commodore grow sleepless from the clock chiming upon the hour, he can always seek solace in the barracks downstairs.

Commodore's private balcony at Coconut Cape

Keeping a vigilant eye on potential threats… both imperial and piratical

The commodore’s residence even boasts a private balcony, complete with diamond‑lens telescope to ensure no incoming menace goes unnoticed.

The floor beneath houses the Commodore’s study, the room where he conducts his delicate diplomatic affairs would the other imperial factions.

Study and kitchen at Coconut Cape

Well accessorized study and kitchen

The adjoining kitchen serves all manner of pineapple cuisine, and it doubles as a galley for the soldiers, as the barracks below is lacking the necessary facilities.

Barracks

The soldiers’ sleeping quarters features a brick-built bunks and various useful items.  What likes within those trunks and sacks?  Could be spoils claimed from apprehended pirates, or it could be the soldiers laundry?

The barracks of 910065 Coconut Cape

Sleep peacefully on the bunks while a prisoner screams from the cell!

A couple of flyers hastily decorate the wall; what appears to be a recruitment poster, and a public health and safety warning – should there be any doubt befriending sharks may pose potential health risks.

Armoury and Storehouse

The ground floor serves as the storehouse, packed with the fort’s vital military provisions. To the right sits the cellar, its cool stone walls lined with barrels of the garrison’s favourite spirits.

Armoury and storehouse at Coconut Cape

Go left for booze… also go right for booze

While, to the left lies the armoury, its racks lined with muskets armed to fight off invaders… and a little extra booze tucked away for morale.

Exterior

Plenty of excitement unfolds through the fort’s external walls…

Battlements

The ramparts are spacious and easily accommodate two cannons, although some fans may be disappointed they’re brick-built, rather than the traditional spring loaded artillery of their youth.

Battlements of Coconut Cape

Plenty of soldiers and plenty of firepower! 💥

The garitas, a defining feature of the original design, are retained; however, they still remain too small to accommodate minfigures.

Dock

The dock is a masterstroke of convenience, letting supply ships sail straight to the storehouse and offload their cargo without wreckin’ their backs.

Docks at Coconut Cape

Pull in at the docks… then take the stairs to the battlements.

Also, there be a hansom reward for them pesky pirates what popup in the barracks unexpectedly and then relocate the soldiers’ possessions to their secret treasure cave…

Rocky Outcrop

A rocky outcrop protrudes from the fortress’s rear wall, appearing to be a simple geological formation… but looks can be deceiving.

Coconut Cape's rocky outcrop

A boring old cliff face, right?

Secret Treasure Cave

Yet this cluster of stone be no mere scenery, it’s a nifty module that detaches to unveil a hidden cavern, glistening with treasure inside its interior.

Coconut Cape's secret treasure cave module

Treasure! But still no vac metal coins

This reveal affords the pirates a sense of purpose: are they raiding the cape and stashing its riches in this hovel? Or be their ambitions far grander and quietly taking shape behind within these shadowy confines?

A Jolly Roger stands ready to mark the pirates’ claim over the cape…

New Map

True to form, the pirates have scribed the location of their secret treasure cave upon a map only they can decipher. Well, the palm trees might be a dead giveaway…

Map and dinghy included with Coconut Cape

X marks the spot where the shark can be found

Like most printed elements included with BrickLink Designer sets, the map is sticker adhered to a 2×2 tile. So not a new map piece per-say, but welcome flourish that enriches the pirates’ unfolding narrative at the cape.

Fauna

What would a LEGO Pirate set be without critters?

Monkey

A young vervet named Mendoza scampers throughout the fortress in search of bananas and a good time.

Monkey with banana at Coconut Cape

Mendoza the monkey

Mendoza is Spinoza’s third cousin thrice removed, though if you ask him, he’ll insist he’s the clever one in the family. Most days he can be found perched atop the Coconut Cape battlements, chittering orders at passing gulls as if they were his personal fleet.

Bird

High above the fortress, in the creaking wooden nest latched to a railing upon the tower’s crown, dwells a bird known only as Mister Plume.

Bird Nest on tower at Coconut Cape

Chief surveillance officer, Mister Plume

No one remembers who first called him that, but the name stuck the moment he strutted across the parapet with the swagger of a seasoned cors-air (aye, pun intended). From dawn to dusk he surveys Coconut Cape with a birds eye view.

Shark

Beneath the foaming surf that crashes against Coconut Cape’s rocky outcrop prowls a ravenous creature all are warned to avoid… Literally… In a warning poster.

Shark shark included with Coconut Cape

Some have named him Old Sawtooth

Even from the supposed safety of a dinghy, pirates and soldiers alike may find the shark surging after them in relentless pursuit.

 Parrot and Frog

A parrot perched on the fort? Naturally. But a frog lurkin’ about? That little stowaway’s got a story he ain’t tellin’.

Parrot and frog included with Coconut Cape

A parrot is to be expected, but a frog?

Aye, Coconut Cape’s offers a fine assortment of critters skitterin’, squawkin’, and hoppin’ about to keep the place lively.

What Do Yer Think?

Has the production version of Coconut Cape met yer expectations? If not, what alterations would you make to the final version?

Side of 910065 Coconut Cape

Is this the Imperial Armada stronghold we’ve been waiting for?

What about the minifigure line-up?  Were Imperial Armada inspired minifigs the right choice?  Or should they be sidelined until the correct parts become available again?  Instead, should one of the previously introduced BrickLink Designer factions  have been garrisoned at Coconut Cape?
