The voting selection for the LEGO Ideas A Twist of Nostalgia! Challenge certainly delivered a twist!
And that twist be a lack of proper re-imagined pirate builds available for voting.
But that shall not stop of us from admiring the brilliant work of dedicated fans…
The Mission
The A Twist of Nostalgia Challenge attracted 753 submissions, around 76 being pirate-themed.
The mission brief states:

Stated on the official challenge webpage
Seems promising, don’t it?
Surely some fantastic Gift With Purchases concepts based on classic LEGO Pirate sets were available for voting right? Right?
The Submissions
Arrr, time be short, so we can’t be showing off all 76 pirate builds, no matter how painful it is to omit them!
Modern Set Updates
Here be some builds what skew towards modern updates in the vein of Pirates of Barracuda Bay and 10320 Eldorado Fortress.
Perhaps a bit too “straight-up replica” for the challenge’s requirements, but just right for a nostalgia-thirsty Classic Pirate…

Re-Imagined Sets
Avast, let’s go full rogue! These creations be sailing far beyond the sets what birthed ’em.
Yer may hardly recognize the original design – if there ever was one!
Definitely not what we’d consider “classic set format” but still worth a glance nonetheless…

Conclusions
Fan Voting
Of the 753 submissions, the LEGO Ideas Team only made 16 available for fan voting.
The ballot may be closed for this challenge, but here be the only true classically pirate submission yer could have voted for:

“This Here Ol’ Chest O’ Booty” by Danolardo
It be be a fine up-scaling indeed, but a treasure chest Gift With Purchase was offered a mere 6 months ago.
And was it the chests o’ booty that made yer a fan of LEGO Pirates for life?
Or be it an actual set that won yer salty heart?
Voting Candidates
Classic Pirates has scoured the voting candidates and rounded up the finest swashbucklin’ choices on offer.
Vote for the LEGO Ideas Twist of Nostalgia Challenge Winners
Pirate pickings were rather slim but there might be some candidates of interest if yer feel so inclined to take a peek.
Pirate Gift With Purchases
Updating a Classic LEGO set be no easy feat!
A chorus of disgruntled fans will most certainly chant their vitriol towards every aspect that falls short of their lofty expectations.
Perhaps a safer route is crafting an entirely fresh design, although that too may be wrought with peril, as 40597 Scary Pirate Island discovered.
What Could Have Been
The Twist of Nostalgia submissions were teeming with fantastic pirate-themed submissions worthy of a vote… maybe even two!
So choices be tough, and the selection weren’t easy to trim!
These last two submissions be far flung from the sources what inspired them, yet still retain the essence of modernised classic LEGO Pirate sets.

“The Treasure Shipwreck” by Christospirates

“Caribbean Fried Chicken” by MyFirstMOC-Hun
They be re-imagined into something entirely new, yet not too far removed from the classics with a modern twist.
But that be a very subjective opinion indeed, so now the helm be yours…
What Do Yer Think?
Are yer happy with the submissions offered for voting? Or do yer yearn for a heartier focus on truer reworkings of the classics?
