A comprehensive review of 1996 – 1997 Pirate sets written by SirSven7

Those sets ended the first era of LEGO Pirates!

With all the new LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean sets already reviewed and blogged, let’s once again make a time travel to the past. Classic-Pirates.com member SirSven7, whom you might remember from writing those great comprehensive reviews of 1989 – 1991 and 1992 – 1995 Pirate sets, continues his great work. This time he takes a look at sets released in 1996 and 1997, the last System Pirates sets we’d seen until 2009 – in fact for many years they were considered the last Pirate sets PERIOD! Also, a new faction was introduced back then – the Spaniards, a subtheme sadly never properly expanded.

The combination of sunset and grog must be the ideal for every pirate!

Even though he says it’s a quick weekend MOC, Eurobricks member Inkog did a marvellous job here. It’s inspired by Whitecap Bay, which is a set from the new LEGO PotC-line as you know. It does look like Whitecap Bay, but perhaps this MOC is even better.

Jack Sparrow in a dingy

The Pirates of the Caribbean news just keeps coming.  This time it’s poly bag number 3.  Set 30131 is Jack Sparrow in a dingy, which isn’t much, but for a premium minifig like this and it looks like you get one of the new glass bottle pieces.  We can add this along side the wooden jack Sparrow and the mini Black Pearl.  Keep your eyes peeled for these!

Lots of treasure! Could it be any better for a pirate?

The first sets of the upcoming LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean line are getting in the stores and the first reviews are slowly getting on our forums. One of the first of them is a review of Isla de Muerta by Eurobricks member WhiteFang. This set has some very good points. Especially the new parts like compasses and sword holders are very appealing. It also has some less good points though. But according to most of our members, the set is well worth it. What do you think?

Three Musketeers En Garde by ACPin

3 vs. Many

Not all Pirates wear rags and sail on ships.  Some come in a more sophisticated form.  Musketeers are just those men.  Men of class but also of skill, they enjoy fine wine, and can drop your pants with a swing of their blade.  I actually feel sorry for the incoming group of Cardinal Guards.
