“6260 Shipwreck Island Remake” by MyFirstMOC

Reinterpreting LEGO Pirate sets is a common inspiration for MOCers. It allows them to dive deep into their nostalgia while reinvigorating old designs with newer parts and colours.

MyFirstMOC has long since departed from the eponym of his name by digitally building a variety of LEGO Pirate MOCs. Starting with Imperial builds like the Fort Hunyadi but recently graduating to remastering the classics.

6260 Shipwreck Island is the third official set to receive a digital makeover and as you can see it’s brimming with detail and colour!

It retains all the charm of the original but introduces many new features

MyFirstMOC writes:

I put out a small vote yesterday that featured a redesigned version of the 6260 set with two types of backgrounds and a few element differences. The majority voted for each picture. But I like the version in picture two better. You can see these two versions a little bigger now because you couldn’t see every detail in the story

6260 Shipwrecked Island was one of the original LEGO Pirate sets in the initial wave released during 1989.

Along with 6270 Forbidden Island and 6235 Buried Treasure, it was the middle-sized island based set. Well, until 1991 when the even larger 6273 Rock Island Refuge was introduced.

It remained in production for a few years and was replaced by 6259 Palm Hideout in 1992.

“The Crimson Mill, Westface” by Ayrlego

Thursday, February 17th, 2022 Featured Image for "The Crimson Mill, Westface" by Ayrlego

Did you know the Imperial Guards have a sweet tooth? That’s right, gimme some sugar baby because this is where it comes from!  The redcoats process all their raw sugar cane at The Crimson Mill in Westface and where it goes after that, you’ll have to read the story below to find out. It doesn’t mention anything of Admiral Woodhouse’s sugar addiction mind you.

Ayrlego brings us another fine MOC for Brethren of the Brick Seas which is not just a mill, but also provides office space on the upper floors. No mention of how much rent costs, but it’s no doubt a few golden doubloons each week.

The Story

As tensions slowly have calmed down after the abortive attack on Tarlor and signing of the treaty of Pamu, Colonel Dirk Allcock has found himself busy in Westface liaising with L’Olius on the creation of the Commonwealth of Terraversa. Popular opinion in Westface is somewhat united in a desire to break free of the shadow of King’s Port and surmount that city as the premier trading port on Terraversa. Opinions on how to do this are far less united with many advocating for an increase in production of the staples produced in Eastern Terraversa, while others call for a massive increase in commercial facilities. Allcock believes both sides have merits and that ultimately Westface will need to develop both if it is to compete with King’s Port. For now however, he believes that production must come before commerce. Here he sees an opportunity to both help Corrington’s new Ally and expand the East Terran Trade Company’s activities on Terraversa. Using his discretionary funds, he has purchased a water mill located astride a dam on the outskirts of Westface.

After some refurbishment, the mill is operational, processing mostly sugar cane on the ground and first level, while the upper floors are being used to temporarily direct the companies activities in Westface while a suitable office location is found. A manager has been found to run the mills operations and she watches the road for a delivery of raw cane from the nearby great plantations.

My entry for Cat C supporting the agrarians in Westface. I wanted to continue what I’m dubbing my ‘vertical’ builds (small footprint but five stories high with overhang). Will be handed over to the ETTC for licensing as a factory.

About the Builder…

Did you know they sing songs about Ayrlego in the village square? Ha! Just kidding, the bard was shot because he was sounding terribly hoarse. Seriously, if you have been a reader of previous blog posts you’ll know he is a regular contributor to the LEGO Pirates Forum on Eurobricks and continues to support the Brethren of the Brick Seas game with builds that do wonderful things to your eyes. Also, you can view more of his creations on Flickr and Instagram, which you’ll notice have been getting progressively taller around the time this blog post was written.

“The Gilded Crow” by Ummester

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022 Featured Image for the "Gilded Crow" by Ummester

Eurobricks member Ummester has brought us this lovely MOC, the “Gilded Crow“! This lovely lady comes complete with all the fixings, including custom rigging and sails, a fully-armed gun deck, and a clever use of Chima parts for the figurehead. Well done, Ummester!

Ummester writes:

Ahoy! She is finally complete and here are a whole bunch of photos. She appears in most photos as I have her on display – turning to port under full sail, flying her red flag of attack, with guns ready for a full broadside.

LEGO Ideas Description

Specifications diagram of the Gilded Crow

An even larger ship than the 10210 Imperial Flagship released in 2009

The Gilded Crow is a 22 gun galleon, based on historical ship design, though ultimately of my own invention. She is true 1:40 (or approximate minifg) scale, giving her real life dimensions of:

Length – 128 ft
Beam – 55 ft
Height from waterline – 115 ft

Other than the sails and rigging, the model is entirely LEGO and comprises of some 4500 bricks and 14 mini figures. The inspiration for the build came from a desire to have a LEGO galleon that looked as good on display as a model galleon, whilst rivalling the largest official sets in size and piece count.

The display base is comprised of a further 1000 parts, which are mostly tiles, small clear plates and studs for the water effects. Without the water effects, the display base is less than 150 parts.

Though designed as a collector’s model, the Crow is also a ‘playable’ build and features 22 shooting guns! She also has a modular design that allows separation of the decks and access to the minifig play areas.

The Captain’s cabin has an organ, treasure chest and bed.

The dining cabin has table and chairs.

The crew quarters has crew bunks.

The main gun deck has space for 14 wheeled cannons.

The galley has a fireplace, bench, utensils and foodstuffs.

And the brig has a rat!

There is also a large amidships (with cannons and an opening below decks hatch), as well as a removable quarter deck for access to the cannons underneath.

I hope you enjoy the photos of this build and would like an official LEGO set of an accurate galleon model, so that the Crow may have fair winds and following seas in the ocean of LEGO ideas.

The submission expired with a measly 728 supporters but you can still view the Gilded Crow on LEGO Ideas if you’re interested to see the comments and updates.

About the Builder…

Ummester (Shane Robinson) shared a couple of ship MOCs in the LEGO Pirates Forum between 2014 and 2017. Beyond that we cannot tell you what happened to him, although, he does own a Flickr account which hasn’t been updated since that period.

He also has a LEGO Ideas Profile (obviously) which includes a couple of non-pirate submissions, but if you like Classic Space or Mechs, they’re worth a look.

Once you’ve done that, sail by the Pirate MOC Subfourm and lament with the Classic Pirates about how the magnificent Gilded Crow failed to garner less one thousand supporters.
